Which DE is best for optimal programming efficiency and productivity?

Name: Anonymous 2012-03-20 7:50

None. Use a tiling WM (such as Xmonad) for that.

Windows XP through 98

>>2 How is a WM more convenient than an arbitrary DE with a fullscreened tmux or GNUscreen ?

Cinnamon. It just works.

I would use KDE, but all the usable distros have broken KDE packaging, and all the distros with usable KDE packaging are broken.

CDE is the best. Iconification and multiple virtual desktops make it much easier to find running programs than less useful designs like a taskbar.

CDE is pig disgusting.

You must be a ``shell only'' kind of guy.

I hated that crap when i worked with Solaris. Luckily we had Gnome available. Only one (old) guy used CDE.

I've been messing around DEs and I can't find one I like. I also use dual monitors, and that makes things harder.

It's trivial to add more desktops in a decent tiling WM. WM don't take up any screen real estate to provide their functions. It is controlled either by configuration files or by keyboard.

Name: Anonymous 2012-03-20 19:22

None. Use a standalone WM. I use dwm.
