Workplace Despair

Name: Anonymous 2012-03-08 18:02

I spent four years getting a Computer Science degree (including implementing multiple crypographic algorithms for my thesis) so I could write shitty Wordpress templates in PHP. Kill me now.

Does anyone else have a shittier job for which they are vastly overqualified?

I've installed Wordpress as a freelancer. Probably one of the easiest ways to make money.

You can always find a new job. There are plenty in London, SF and NY for programmers.

Think of it this way, OP.  Now you simply have more time and energy for working on personal programming projects, which are always more fun and satisfying than shit you get paid to do.

You're right, it's an easy way to make money. Mostly because web development is full of bottom-feeders, and anyone with half a brain looks good.

I live an hour from London. I can't find a role asking for a Haskell game developer though.

Do you make themes for Google Sites?  I need one.  For free.

>implying you're not mentally exhausted after working a 9 hour shift

NEET detected.

By the time I get home from work I barely have enough energy to make dinner. Then I just browse /prog/ like I am now and pass out. I wish I had the energy to read and learn new things again. Maybe someday when I have enough money and can work less.

9 hour shift
What programming job is shift work? And 9 hours? I've worked 18 hours a day before, and I fucking enjoyed it! Because I am a manager, not a worker, and it is free overtime to me.Stop complaining, wage slave.

I feel bad for you man. But I suppose being a workaholic for a job you enjoy is better than working 8 hour shifts for a job you hate.

mind you, I've worked continuously for multiple consecutive days with no sleep before. But I was working for myself though. I would never do such a thing for money.

What's wrong with earning money from something you put effort into? Money is just society's representation of the right to exist. You use it to buy food. Do people who do what they enjoy not have a right to exist?

Wage slaves are the ones who get overtime. Managers usually work on salaries and get paid zero overtime.

If you're going to pretend to be a manager on the internet when you've never had a real job, at least do some research.

it isn't worth it to me. I will only work enough time to meet my needs. After my needs are meet, I have no more incentive to earn money, and I will invest my time in things that I find meaningful for myself. Granted, I do enjoy designing and implementing complex systems and solving complex problems for the man, but why work for the man when you don't have to? Work on something that you can actually own yourself? Or choose to share with the world by making it open source?

*Why not work on something that you can actually own yourself*

Money is labour, nothing more.

Don't change these.
