Is java the new ASM

Name: Anonymous 2012-03-07 21:09

Lots of programs run in browsers engines. Being that javascript is _the_ browser language... Do you see JS as the assembler language of THE FUTURE?????????!

Name: Anonymous 2012-03-07 21:15

Go back to /g/.
Not going to say please.

JavaScript is shit. W3C allows any language with a MIME Content-Type to be used in an HTML script tag. Browser plugins support a wider range of client-side web programming languages.

brendan eich has described javascript as the "x86 of the web" and i have to admit i cannot think of a better comparison

4/10
it's getting old

Both are shit and are only used because a popular company (IBM for x86, Netscape/Microsoft for ECMAScript) needed ``something'' right away.

Java isn't Javascript.

if brendan eichmann instead moved towards a univeral virtual machine for the web rather than obsessing over javascript, we could progress faster, in terms of languages for the browser.

If he hadn't made Javascript the alternative would have been worse.

Unfortunately, once it was made, it was out of his hands. He couldn't fix it a week later any more than he could fix it today.

Yes. Al least is not Basic or some shit like that.

Denied.

buuuuuuuuut it could have been deprecated and replaced with a proper vm (with bundled javashit implementation i guess) before people got too attached to it

not that it matters now since mozilla tries to push javascript like it's the second coming of jesus while completely disregarding options like nacl

If you knew anything about Netscape's development practices you would understand why there was never any chance of that happening.

'(htmlisp
  (head
