Matlab, mathematica or SAGE

I can pirate the first two or use the last one(GNUUUUUUUU and Python) which one is cool for mathematics oriented software engineering and has less bullshit to deal with?

get matlab
mathematica is useless
i don't know sage ;-D

Mathemarica is the best
Maxima looks similar is opensource and written in CL, but I didn't really try it for anything serious

i don't have anything to contribute to this thread other than the fact that wolfram is a faggo

Wolfram and everything he makes is unscientific and destructive.

Stop the brainwashing (http://www.wolframscience.com/thebook.html). Boycott Mathematica and all Wolfram software.

Wolfram is Jewish. He sells you snake oil.

Wolfram hates Lisp, he believes Lisp is too slow and not C/C++ enough for his liking.

Wolfram wrote SMP because he felt that Macsyma, which he used
extensively, was too slow. Wolfram thought that he was
cleverer than anyone else and could read Knuth's books and
then write a better computer algebra system. He wrote it
with
S. Cole, Geoffrey C. Fox, Jeffrey M. Greif, Eric D. Mjolsness, Larry J.
Romans, Timothy Shaw, and Anthony E. Terrano.

Lisp is inherently 100 times slower than C and therefore an unsuitable vehicle. -- Stephen Wolfram

too bad ITA uses common lisp to solve intractable computing problems and wolfram hasn't done shit

I really prefer MATLAB. Mathematica came across as useless for anything that didn't require symbolic math and programmers seldom require that. The syntax was also ugly.

MATLAB's matrix manipulation ability is its' strongest point, but it really does make it a strong candidate for lots of different problems. MATLAB also comes out of the box with tons of useful libraries. You'll never use most of them, but it's still nice to have. I also strongly recommend using GNU Octave over MATLAB as it improved on the language in a couple of ways.

Happy scripting.

MATLAB stands for Matrix Laboratory, it is primary designed to work with matrices. I dont see why people just dont use Octave since its free and better.

Or Scilab since it doesn't use GNUplot for plotting.
