I am trying to set up some permissions on some work computers for customers to use but I want to make it so they can't even download a gosh darn thing. The admin settings are set but I just can't disable downloading. plox help so I can go home and fap.
Can't block all traffic. The computers run flash games networked to a main server in another state. We have it set with strict admin settings and public fox add on for firefox. Seems to work enough for 99.99% of people that will walk in but its not tight enough for me to trust long term. Right now I am worried about people writing a script in notepad then saving as a different file type to delete system 32 and such. One problem is its technically an internet cafe so access needs to be there enough for people to browse and such. I really have no experience running security on other PC's like this so if anyone has some decent program suggestions help is appreciated.
Write your own browser.
Alternatively, remove write permission from their HDDs. Smart people would tunnel content through HTML otherwise.

well, if it was a unix like system, you could set up the root password, set up a guest login, and the guest would not have the permissions to delete files owned by root. You can also prevent the guest user from being able to access certain devices, like cdrom , audio, or whatever. If you remove write access to their home directory, they wont be able to save anything anywhere. Alternatively, you could give them a really small quota, like 300 KB.

/tmp
But I hate to break it to you, half of what a browser does is downloading.
Anyway, set up user accounts and privilege levels.

I know its not really prog but I just knew I could get an answer here I could trust without "hurr durr balete system 32!". If anyone is in the chicago area and wants to possibly make a buck modifying the programming on a windows control system for an industrial machine left me know. I will get the system it runs and post it if there is interest. Just need a few mods done that I will go into more detail with if someone is in the area.

Why? might be worth a couple hundred to someone who can fix it. It came with windows on it which was strange when I saw the windows logo on screen. Most everything I have ever seen for manufacturing has always been a unix system for the most part but this thing was different.
