Why does /prog/ love Sussman so much but never talk about Ableson? He's not very charismatic but neither is Sussman. They're both extremely geeky, but Ableson strikes me as a brilliant autist while Sussman comes across like one of those nerds who thinks they're smart because they've mastered Dungeons and Dragons and Star Wars trivia.
Abelson has sworn allegiance to Gweedo van Rossoom and thus became the vile champion of FIOC, now known only as the Anticudder. His new forceful ways have stranded him from the path to Satori, and his actions as the Anticudder have made him an enemy of the noble Knights of the Lambda Calculus and those of kindred spirit.
Have you watched the SICP lectures, OP? Sussman has a passion for the subject that is infectious, you are at once entertained and inspired by his lectures. The fleeting sincerity and individuality of his character makes watching his lectures not only exciting but personally rewarding. He wants you to understand and appreciate LISP, and you will.
Abelson, while technically able, has a lecturing style that cannot hold up to the master -- he is good but he is no Sussman. His voice is often monotone, he is often-times inadvertently obtuse when dealing with students, and he just cannot seem to convey quite the same thrill of learning that the Sussman can.

As I side note, interviewing at Google, Microsoft, and Facebook -- only Google has SICP on the recommended reading list.
