I'm having some trouble.

I need to download Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition, August 2007 DirectX 9.0 SDK, and Dark GDK so I can do homework for programming class.

I downloaded Visual C++ and did a test program so the compiler and debugger could run. Now I'm downloading the DirectX, and I came across an error.

"DirectX Runtime Setup Failed (-9)

An internal system error occurred. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your windows folder to determine the problem."

I've ran into this before, disregarded it, let the rest run, and I've gotten compiler errors before.

Any help on the matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You should drop out. Pick at least one of the following reasons:
1) You are so stupid you can't even setup development environment that requires elaborate clicking on "Next" several times.

2) Your shitty school is trying to teach you crap with non-portable technologies, essentially making just another drone that will be replaced in 5 years' time by slave labour in India.

3) If you weren't making games since you were 12, you have no chance of being a good game dev.

4) Admit it, all you ever wanted to do in your life, your greatest dream and fantasy, was scrubbing toilets. Go forth, my friend, follow your dream and go scrub another toilet, you wonderful young person

If it's the same error I ran into, the install actually completes, it just shits itself because you've installed a newer version of the runtime via some security updates.

Because how could Microsoft possibly anticipate that this would ever happen?

1. I have tried the click on "Next" option literally a dozen times, and it all leads to having the same errors show up.

2. I'm following the tutorial the school gave me
(http://www.harding.edu/ragsdale/comp150/installing%20darkGDK.pdf)
and it's the same story.

3. I haven't been making games since I was 12, and I don't plan to get into the coding and programming aspect of gaming. I want to get into the 3d modeling aspect, but this class is necessary for my degree.

4. Uhhh, no. my greatest dream and fantasy is to work in either video games, animation or visual effects.  That's why I entered this course, chose this degree, signed up for the classes, and pulled countless all-nighters getting the homework and projects done.

If anyone has anything worthwhile to contribute to my problem, then please do so.

Holy shit, this possibly isn't a troll.
Bro, if your school told you that you need Visual Studio, DirectX, and "Dark GDK" all to be installed, and they don't install correctly, then you need to work it out with the professor.  If you really are the only one in the entire school having this problem, then you really are just hopeless.

What would make you think I was trolling?

Other people have been having problems with this, but not the same problem.

And I would have loved to work it out with my professor, but my grandfather had a stroke last week, and passed away early this morning.I haven't been able to get in contact with her because of this.

Ok, I looked in DXError and pulled the logs from the latest install.

I've tried this a dozen times, meaning I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything a dozen times.

It would probably help if you had a genuine (read: non-pirated) and fully patched version of Windows.

You got a segfault, bro.

Don't change these.
