LISP vs pacman
# pacman -S sbcl --noconfirm
pacman wins!

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-05 21:33

Lisp is non-existent outside freetard and academic circles. Why does /prog/ fap over it? SICP is shit, btw, compared to modern books.

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-05 21:46

No introductory modern book are useful as SICP.
No modern programming language is simple and easy as Scheme.

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-05 21:51

I think that the original proposal of a clear way to implement correctly defined programs is the right way to do programming.

But [as stated by the new curricula] people are faced with buggy libraries and not clearly defined devices/implementations, and should learn languages and tricks commonly found in industry-standard code. As an introductory course.

The game, not the package manager! Silly sausages.

question

when is it appropriate to use lambda?

I really haven't found any need for it...

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-06 19:02

>>16
I use Lambda whe small bits of code that could be separated into a function but aren't generic enough to need a name.

Name: Anonymous 2012-02-06 22:44

>>16
One common use is as an argument to a higher-order function.

(mapcar #'(lambda (x) (f 1 x)) list)
