/prog/ I would like to make my own OS.

How can I even approach this?

This! Writing an OS is like trying to climb the mount everest naked.

Not really, it's fairly easy if you know x86 assembly; some people expect to just know Python and already be able to write their own OSes.

I bet you can't even write the Kol Nidre in x86 assembly let alone an OS.
All personal vows we are likely to make, all personal oaths and pledges we are likely to take between this Yom Kippur and the next Yom Kippur, we publicly renounce. Let them all be relinquished and abandoned, null and void, neither firm nor established. Let our personal vows, pledges and oaths be considered neither vows nor pledges nor oaths.

You only need asm for a small part of the code, maybe 20 lines at the most, then C takes over.

You could start by reading SICP.

Then you HAVE TO read K&R.

When you complete these, you can read one of the popular OS books: Modern Operating Systems or Operating Systems Concepts.

Its not the technical aspect since I've written a bootloader and some protected mode switching crap myself, its the fact that the fruits of your labor will find less users than the most unloved esoteric language out there. Name the next dozen operating systems after winshit, linux, freebsd, and solaris, and figure out how many users they have. The ones with a chance seems to be reverse engineering efforts, and the rest are playing (or really are) crazy.

I shall write an OS in Common Lisp

It shall be named Common Solutions

Join the Anonix project. All the utilities are done, all that is missing is a kernel.

K&R is useless since C is undefined shit.

Asm is the way.

I can provide a MINIX filesystem, parts of a kernel and bootloader

So you are like GNU now.
