Do you know why C++ is so widespread?

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 3:48

Because it's a good language. So are C and Java.

Do you know why LISPs are so widespread?
They're not.

This thread is bad and you should feel bad.

This thread is ENTERPRISE QUALITY and you should feel proud.

SEPPLES

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 11:22

You know what's widespread?
Shit! Do we shit 'cuz we like to?
No we have to.
Sepples is shit.

C++
IHBT :(

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 12:40

its only widespread because of all the FUD around python (like being slow or bloated or FIOC)

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 12:43

You might as well ask "Why is AIDS so widespread among the gay community?"

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 13:00

I bet you're going to claim Visual Basic is a good language too.

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 13:02

IIRC, GCC internally translates C/C++ into Lisp-like language, with sexps and the crud. It even does transformation into continuation-passing-style:
http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gccint/Gimplification-pass.html

You cant run from Lisp, bitch.

No wonder GCC is the best!

You cant run from Lisp, bitch.
Of course I can, that's exactly what GCC allows me to do!

You're, like, saying "you can't run from shit, no matter what fancy clothes you put on and how hygienically you clean your anus, you still can't run from the fact that there's shit inside you! So don't you no look at me funny, mister, as I'm wallowing in my filth, massaging diarrhoea into my nipples."

In other words, everything has its time and place. Lisp's time and place is as one of the IRs inside a compiler for a real programming language, such as C++.

The truth is that C/C++ is an ad hoc, informally-specified, bug-ridden, slow implementation of half of Lisp.

And the way GCC manages memory is a must see! Probably half of GCC's code deals with memory management, instead of using GC.

instead of using GC
Stopped reading right there.

The end of the post is indeed a good place to stop reading it.

JVM == Decent
Java == Ranges from okay to absolute shit.

implying a decent virtual machine, makes a shitty language decent.

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-21 23:36

>>14
why did they call it GCC if it doesn't use GC?

your argument is invalid

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-22 5:12

I started working in Java yesterday for the first time, after years of perl and some months of C#

I FUCKING HATE THAT SHIT.

FUCK OFF JAVA

In the other hand, Scala is cool

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-22 6:01

C++ is widespread because microsoft sold a compiler in a shrinkwrap that was neither visual and probably not C++.

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-22 10:07

C++ is widespread because managers who don't code decide what solutions their teams will use to produce robust and scalable products to leverage...

Name: Anonymous 2011-12-22 10:14

If C++ was really not popular, like COBOL, open source community would abandon it.
