Vim is a very powerful text editor in Unix (and many other environments).
If you've ever been using pico and wishing you could do things like
cut/paste 6 lines, delete a whole line at once, quickly move around the
file, have syntax highlighting, go to the parenthesis that matches the one
you've highlighted, use code folding, split up the screen to have multiple
files open at once, write macros to easily perform tasks you do often,
etc, etc... then vim is one of the options you can use to do all that and
more! Participants should bring their laptops if they want to follow
along, though they're welcome to just come and listen if they like.

This is going to turn into a /g/ thread about how vim/emacs users are `elitists' and you don't `need' a proper text editor.

I just know it.
