On the topic of /prog/scrape why doesn't it keep its data in XML?  I'd much rather have easy regex search of a board and use of XPath over SQL.

Regex and SQL are different tools for different jobs. Storing the data in an SQL database is easily more efficient in terms of storage requirements. XML is better used as a data exchange format; a /prog/scrap archive isn't the best use of XML.
