English Prevalence in Programming Languages

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-22 11:32

How come most programming languages use English in their syntax?

like define, goto, allocate, end, print, return, integer, if, then, else, define etc

Is it an attempt by the western world to increase its global reach, or is it just an auxiliary language?

less hours means less burned out employees. They'll be more productive during the time they work, and if there isn't enough time to get stuff done, then you can just hire more programmers and spread the work out.

Seriously, French people like English words.
They say English "parking" instead of French "stationnement".

They say "lifting" instead of Greek "rhytidectomie" (facelift) that's not even English.

As a friend points out, if you're unhappy with English all you have to do is e. g.

#define if si
