/prog/ - why elephant?

in the book "The Little Schemer" they use an elephant mascot on the cover of the book. In the other "Little XX" books they use a camel for OCAML and a coffee cup for Java. But I dont see how an elephant relates to Lisp, Scheme or Lambda Calculus. Anyone know why they use an elephant?
