C v C++ v C# v Java

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-15 4:30

I here a lot of people saying that they are all the same language. And most of those people saying that C#/Java is better because they have the latest OOP library ______ to do.... whatever. But quick question. If they're all the same language, why was C first... by over a decade?

C is like a sharp obsidian knife thousands of years old
C++ is a modern surgical knife with retractable handle and self-sharpening edge
C# is an electric saw
Java is a butter knife with dull edge

C is a dog
C++ is a dog with tentacles stapled to it
C# and Java are both octopuses with dog masks on

C

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-16 22:41

C - good for learning programming basics and for writing things that absolutely have to run everywhere and/or as fast as possible.

C++ - good for actually writing something useful IF you don't know any better languages.

C#/Java - good for actually writing something useful that people want to use without spending months coding and debugging.

Lower level languages give more control or whatever, which is good in theory, but at a certain point in your life you just want to fucking get something thrown together that functions without wasting the rest of your life working on it.

Sort of the same reason people generally prefer windows to linux.

Sort of the same reason the uneducated morons of the world generally prefer windows to linux.

Let's tell the truth, shall we?

The world generally prefers windows because they are taught windows. If they are taught other things, they'd use other things.

Lies. People wil pick up anything you drop in front of them. I've gotten non-technical people up running and being productive on Linux desktops.

The concepts are the same between OSes just the details change.

Basic shit really.
