Thats it, i'm writing my own browser

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 4:43

Firefox is hogging 75% of my ram and thats unacceptable.
Plus it randomly disables right-click when i switch processes, and i need to alt-tab again to use the mouse. It writes and reads to disk almost every minute, despite me changing every relevant setting in about:config. No plugins are enabled, all extensions don't even run.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 5:25

Try installing another 128MB RAM stick in your computer, ``gramps''.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 7:37

Try using Lynx or w3m before writing yet another browser.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 7:44

Just download more RAM and that's it.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 8:07

Downloading RAM is stealing.

I don't want another ancient text-mode browser. It a complete Firefox replacement with 95% of features.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 9:41

Oh! I got a good name for your new ````browser'''': Dillo2 Electric Boogaloo

I've got constantly >5 browser windows open, with upto 20 tabs each, and so far, firefox8 is faster than chrome. boy i wonder why

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 9:50

It will be called Valeat Res Magis

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 10:04

Why not ``Magical Web Spiral Berners-Lee''?

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 10:12

>>9
>Magicalis Tela Spirae
Actually a good name for CSS engine.

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 10:18

I didn't mention the browser will have the ability to turn off components like JavaScript/CSS/FLash completely. It is a flexible, modern architecture, though it will have focus on performance and stability, rather then feature completeness.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 10:19

you're going to do CSS too?
javascript? flash? html5?
be compatible with the half broken half of the internet?

it's too much work, you *cannot* write your own client, except maybe a client that can work with a small subset of what's on the web... how are you going to access youtube? i guess what i'm saying is you should just choose a browser, you're pretty much stuck with firefox if you don't want chrome...

I don't actually have Flash installed since 2007, i don't trust adobe at all. I download youtube videos with an extension and view them in VLC.

Cats, Anime, Anime Music Videos, Newsbites, some random videos linked from reddit and such sites.

Install Opera.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 10:54

Will it have infinite compression?

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 11:04

>>16
I don't intend to rely on some proprietary bloatware suite, even if it takes less Ram. Opera isn't the fast lane to perfomance.
Its a fast lane to crashing to desktop.

Name: FrozenVoid 2011-10-14 11:09

First priority is now, of decent browser to use internet with.
I can develop the algorithms in the future, its not like i forget the schemes of compression, i write them down in my personal wiki as they come in my mind.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:32

Chromium is actually pretty fast; you should use it. I had the same problem with fireshit, and it was annoying as fuck. So I abandoned it.

Name: Anonymous 2011-10-14 12:36

Pigeonanus principle motherfuckers.

Except Opera isn't bloated. Smaller footprint, less ram consumed, and yet, with more features. Excellence in efficiency. Only a corporation can do that. Open source will never achieve this level of technology.

FF is a memory hog, for me it uses 500 MB and over, occasionally.

Too bad Chrome is poop in most cases :(.

Let's let the Blender and GIMP teams design the new GNUBrowser AI. And instead of javascript, it will only implement python.

LMAO!LOL
Its dynamic linked library, not shared library.
Shared libraries are on linux, dynamic linked libraries are on windows.
