Language to learn?

Name: Anonymous 2011-09-26 3:07

Hey /prog/, full programming newfag. My friends and I want to work together on a project to make a basic 2D game. We're all pretty skilled at something, one of my friends composes and sells classical music internationally, and another is a very skilled at digital design. Out of the three, I know most about computers but nothing about programming, but am very willing to learn. So, what language? I hear some form of C would be good, something about working well with XNA for a simple game? The idea is that we learn the coding together and work on it. Advice would be helpful.

Or is it just a case of using game maker and not bothering? We'd really like to make a go of it.

[spoilers]do I have to use noko on a discussion board?[/spoilers]

Learn 8086 assembly, draw directly to the framebuffer, and write your game in the boot sector of a floppy.

If your goal is to just get a game going and aren't intent on becoming an expert programmer yet you can just find C#/XNA tutorials for the type of game you want to make and pretty much just replace the art assets with your own.

lol discussion board. It would behoove you not to noko on the text boards, try sage instead.

You could always use Python+Pygame, will probably the easiest way for you to do it...

Don't change these.
