Perl

Hi all,

I want to become familiar with Perl this summer.

Can anyone recommend any projects I should try, and resources I should look at? Is it practical to code random shit in Perl, or should I wait until I have an actual task I want to accomplish with Perl to try it?

I'm a fourth year computer science major so I'm somewhat familiar with how to learn a language.

Implement Common Lisp in Perl.

From the perl I've seen, in fact it is a mistake to try accomplishing any actual tasks in perl. You're much better off coding random shit and only random shit in it.

It's quite practical to write random shit in Perl, but if you are looking to write REAL APPLICATIONS then the learning process is much longer.

At this point I advise you to just start out with Perl 6. Carry on that flame for us fivers

You'll probably have to get to grips with (perl5's) mental object system if you want anything bigger than random shit. There's always Camel, but then you might as well just go full blown perl6.

Don't change these.
