Is there any way to prevent this boards long, slow decline into irrelevance?

OK, let's put aside the fact that there are some "undesirable" posters who constantly spam the board and commit the worst crime posters can - they're boring. And let's put aside the fact that we currently have to suffer with the worst moderation the board has had in years.

What can we do to prevent /prog/ from sliding further into decline? Are there steps I can personally take, as a poster, to stop this? Honestly, the daily conversation in /prog/ over the past couple of months has veered into the inane and the jejune. It's hard to believe a board that used to be as sophisticated as /prog/ has declined to such an extent that bot spamming every thread is greeted by the moderation with "Oh, well...I'm too busy masturbating to AKB48 to delete that shit."

I'm going to do my damnedest to make sure the board conditions improve. If this means providing more content, so be it. Unfortunately, I know any topic I make will be beset by spammers, as I seem to attract them like bees are attracted to sweet nectar. And I know I can't count on the current moderation to do much, as it's too focused with looking for videos of black people behaving badly on YouTube.

But still. I'll continue striving to make /prog/ a quality place to post. Hope those of you who are as concerned with the state of the board as I am, will make the same pledge.

Let's make a thread about how bad meta-threads are!

I was just like you, then I lost all the hope. Just ignore them, use a filter if you really can't. MrVacBob doesn't care about us, the last time he did something was when we got spammed by GNAA, IIRC, and he did nothing on their second raid.

I'll admit, I'm new to /prog/, I came here on September 2010, and started posting at November of the same year, after reading some old threads, master the BBCode and get into the /prog/rider's mentality.
I thought it was a really great place, with great minds engaging interesting discussion, sometimes digressing into a refreshing retardation. It was different from the usual programming forum/board, it was better.
Of course, the overall quality in 2010 was still declining, but it was much better than now.
When I actually realized (after the GNAA spam) where /prog/ was going, I fought the spam doing whatever I could. Bumping old gems? Didn't work. Sagebombing the spam threads? Hell, no, they would just remake the thread. Posting good threads? It doesn't work if it's just one person doing so. Reporting the threads? Hahahaha, that's a good one! I reported dozens of thread directly to MrVacBob, just to be completely ignored, not even a reply, not even a ``No''.
After PUDDI, autism and this faggot here: >>2, I just lost any hope I had in getting /prog/ the glorious place it was, ignored them, once in a while flame with the ``in Lisp'' troll.

The only thing that you, as a poster, can do is to ignore. Or become a mod, ask MrVacBob if you have time to lose.

No, I don't remember that period because my proxy simply stripped all those posts automatically.

How can you guys claim to be so smart when the solution is so obvious? Produce, market, and engage in: your own programming community. You can not fix /prog/, it's flawed by design.

Also, why the fuck do you faggots care so much.

Calm down, bro.  the board'll live.  Today is my first time on /prog/ and despite the fact that this place looks like shit, and barely anything here seems programming-related (And I haven't seen the first thing about python!), I've decided to try to stick around on this board and contribute.

>Is there any way to prevent this boards long, slow decline into irrelevance?
Implying prog was relevant or popular beyond 3-5 people who program in some recursively homoiconic language

Where did you get the idea that /spoiler/ was ever ``relevent''?

I've written a userscript (and also a userstyle) for FF et al. that makes it a snap to hide spam. Does anyone want it, or have all the Cool Kids Who Care been blessed by Sussman with a bayesian-filtering textmode client already?
