I remember trying to learn Scheme in univeristy. both times I tried it, I missed a fundamental class, due to co-op interviews, and got left behind quickly.
I've been told that once you finally GET scheme and lisp, it makes you a better programmer, but it never did click, and I barely passed the class - I've greatly disliked them ever since.
I kinda know what they mean by the click though - I took a logic course, and it got to the part of the curriculum where you try to prove something by disproving one of the previous assertions, then assuming something else, and then solving the problem. It wasn't until several lectures later where I finally figured out what I should be assuming afterward, wheras most of the class was dumbfounded, because it seemed like you could just assume anything you wanted.
