how is it that pc games are usually $10 less than console games, but can look and perform significantly better? plus, it must take a lot of work to make them scalable for various setups. sorry if this is a stupid question for some, but i don't know much about game creation.
I think its because PC is a open platform, while publishers who release their games on consoles need to pay Sony and MS licensing fees or something.

because they all used to be the same price but then the xbox360 and ps3 popped their balls out and increased the game prices for those consoles by $10
Pirating is less common on consoles compared to PCs.
If PC games were as pricy, people would just pirate.

Consoles are sold very cheaply. In the beginning they often cost less than their production. Selling games for higher prices is how they get that money back.
