starting programing

hey guys im going to uni and I get to choose which programming course I want for my intro to programming course.  I dont want functional shit because its worthless in industry, and I dont want C or C++ because they are old languages that dont have any of the features of new languages.

I'm trying to decide between Java and C#.  C# is faster and has the support of microsoft (windows), but I know Java is industry standard.  which should I chose if I want to go into game programming?
