A newb's question

Name: A newb 2011-02-28 22:26

This is a serious question.

Why do /prog/rammers type quotes as `` and " instead of ""?

Where or how did this inside joke start?

Here's another question.

What the fuck is...

Thank you.

Ah, thanks.

Because some faggot called Sussman used those quotes in his retarded text "Structure and interpretation of computer programs" otherwise known as faggot OP.

AFAIK, this isnt an "inside joke", just miseducation. "``''" quotes're used by people graduated from humanities.

I dont believe Sussman did it by his will. Publishing companies employ editors, correctors and censors. They're graduated from humanities and totally brainfucked.

So who was faggot quotes then? Expand on how they occur.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-28 23:10

They are POSIX style quotes, you'll find them in manpages, POSIX documentation, GNU programs etc.

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-28 23:13

>>13
Why use them over "?

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-28 23:16

>>14

Because they are more common in the environments people use them in?

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-28 23:17

>>14
Because using the same delimiter for opening and closing is beyond retarded.
