Learning Python

Starting to learn Python (for web mainly). Coming from Perl and PHP. What are good online tutorials? Your favorite framework? What sucks about Py and what not?

@2 And that is related to the topic of this thread how?

I know my way around computers, did a bit Assembler on the 8088 back when I was a kid, programmed some years in Borland's TurboPascal back then, learned a bit of C, never bothered with Cpp 'cause the web was more exciting in the mid 90s, so I did Perl, later PHP.

I am looking for some comments on Py for _the_web_, not general intros to programming. But thanks anyway!

MIT 6.01 is the intro Python course. How is MIT not related to everything in /prog/?

From the site:

>Key engineering principles, such as abstraction and modularity, are applied in the design of computer programs, electronic circuits, discrete-time controllers

Python? Maybe they use Py as example language to teach you basic software layout, but I kinda know that already.

Wow, I realize that it must be frustrating for you that you still have no girlfriend, but that's no reason to randomly insult people. Some day even you will find one.

>>9
Yeah, I did that of course. I just hoped for some random opinions here, maybe some new thoughts. Looking a little through the questions thou, I noticed that here seem to be only cs first semesters. Never mind, back to SO and HN, I guess.

Because MIT'ers have an inferiority complex for not having been good enough to have gotten into Caltech.

The classic small penis syndrome.

I tried Django for my stuff and it was really useful. A lot of (corporate) web stuff is written from scratch in Python/Perl, without frameworks.

What is nice in python is that it's general purpose language, not like PHP.

IMHO Python suck at functional programming, thy shouldn't minimize its support (they even wanted to move some of this stuff into libs instead of being part of the syntax, also compare what language's author said about higher order functions). I'm a Haskell fan, maybe it's problem due to that.

Also there isn't so much libs like in Perl (compare CPAN with Python's.. ehm, never mind).

I use bottle.py. It's simple and hackable but you might want to look into something with more features like database abstraction and shit like that.

Why do pathetic Americans insist on using this phrase?  All you do is negate any thought of value which precedes it.

racket has a pretty awesome web development stack (no troll), as long as you have an editor that properly marks unbalanced parenthesis.
