Learning C

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-05 11:28

Hello /prog/. I am a newbie programmer (not even sure I am worth of the title) who only knows Java at a decent level and a bit of assembly from highschool. I wish to learn C. Which book should I use?

K&R.

Old, archaic, and insecure languages such as C have no place in this century.

Do yourself a favor and learn C#.

- kindest regards, /g/

Disregard >>3, listen to >>2 if you want to learn C.

Then read SICP.

I drop down from Objective-C to C from time to time, it can be rather useful.

The C Book is a good introduction to C for those with programming experience. It is available for free at http://publications.gbdirect.co.uk/c_book/ .

"Kernigan and Ritchie", no more, no less. Learn C because any decent programmer should.

Then, move on

Learn Forth instead.
Then move to Lisp.
Then move to /g/.
