On Lisp is a much better book than SICP. It's more deep and thoughtful, and in the end you will be a better programmer after reading it than after reading SICP. Why everyone here keeps on hyping SICP is beyond my understanding.

They're both good books. Someone should read both SICP and learn some Common Lisp (including macrology books like "On Lisp") too.
