There will soon be more networked devices than people. IPv4 is limited to around 4 billion addresses. There are more than 4 billion people in the world, and there will be multiple networked devices per person (aside from a couple people in impoverished countries). When that happens, we can either a) abuse the fuck out of DHCP and NAT, or b) convert to IPv6.
