I'm trying to expand my very basic knowledge of programming, to figure out whether or not I want to take a college course and possibly get a career out of it.
So, since I found it very difficult to find a beginner book on C++ that doesn't already assume knowledge of certain things, I went online and decided that I will start by learning python. I got two books, one is how to think like a comp scientist : python, and the other is learning python the hard way.
The first one doesn't actually have any exercises, so I decided to start on the second one and use the first as a reference to programming itself, rather than the codes.
Now, first thing it says to do is install gedit (got that part done ofc), and to run python using Command Prompt (lol, C.P for short).
When I type python though, it displays : "python is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."
Python is installed in the default C: directory (C:\Python27 i believe), and my default directory when I open cmd is C:\Users\myusername>
Anybody know how I can fix this problem? I checked to see how to change the default directory but apparantly that could mess things up, and seeings how I have no experience w/ cmd, I don't wanna risk it.
