Why aren't there unsigned floating point numbers in c/c++?

Name: Bobby Brown 2010-10-28 4:11

Seriously, it would be pretty convenient.

Why aren't there 800-bit floating point numbers in c/c++?

Why aren't there decent posters in /prog/?

Because there's no benefit.  What the hell would you do with them  that you can't do with signed floating point numbers?  If they existed, they would have the same precision and range of magnitudes.  It's like asking why there isn't a 24-bit integer type.

Incorrect. Correct answer is that floats are already retarded. Even evil has standards, so there is no need to deviate floats anymore than they are already.

Why aren't there bitwise operations on floating point numbers in c/c++?

You can use a cast.

*(int*)&c = *(int*)&a ^ *(int*)&b;

You could get away with this sort of low-level trolling on /g/, but it is simply pitiful when put in practice here.

Why are you quoting me and not >>9 as well? He was clearly trolling as well! He might even be the same person as me and YHBTC.

I'm >>9 and I was inspired to make that post when I saw a guy at Sepples forums complaining that casting an int to (char *) doesn't turn it into a (numeric) string.
