Ok Chicken Little you've been saying that the sky is falling for the past 10 years. No one cares any more.

IPv4 vs. IPv6 is just a library problem. If the average application developer even notices anything about the change, he's using the wrong tools.

I bet you're one of those people who thinks Y2K was just unfounded hysteria too.

By and large, in fact it was bullshit. I still made money off it though. Whatever.

well it is an issue if you use std system sockets or certain datatypes.

Y2K was mostly hysterics, unfounded at that. For my part, I changed 4 lines of code to bring an entire business up to date.

IPv6, much like Y2038, is less of an issue.

"oh yeah guys let's make time a signed integer, nobody will be using computers by the time it becomes negative anyway"

The type was created with source level future-compatibility in mind, which is why it isn't 'a signed integer'. (Regardless, the sign bit is desirable.)

No man, let's hype Y2038 and rip suited idiots' money off with it. It'll come as a great bonus before my retirement.

I like the way you think, >>10-kun.

Converting stored binary data during a mass systems upgrade/migration would be the only real angle. Tedious.

Maybe you should retire early so they can bring you out of it. Oh wait, you don't have any unique skills lol

I've converted my personal network to be v6 and setup a few transitional mechanisms like 6 to 4.
