Why would somebody use GWT?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-22 21:53

Am I missing something or is this thing little more than a JavaScript compiler for Java?

If so, what's the fucking deal? Why would somebody use this? JavaScript is usually nicer to work with than Java.

Google puzzles me sometimes.

Because it's more convenient to program against statically-typed Java APIs in an IDE like Eclipse, which has context-assistance, autocompletion, and an integrated debugger that isn't browser-reliant, than it is to program against a JavaScript API and try to debug it in a browser.

Also, ENTERPRISE programmers don't understand how to write JavaScript.
