Why are perl users so pretentious?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 5:01

Perl users think they are so fucking special because their programming language is "logical" and at least 500,000x better then PHP (Which it is, but so is every other language. PERL's main advantage seems to be it "isn't PHP")

Perl code is by far the ugliest most unreadable code ever. Seriously, why can't any perl user comment their fucking code? It seems like perl users are so pretentious that even when they release their source to open public, they expect us to understand it perfectly.. And if we can't, we must be PHP users! That's real fucking logical.

Fuck off PERL.

Both languages [b]GET SHIT DONE![b]

You sound like a Perl user.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 5:47

when they release their source to open public
Stopped reading right there. It's a gaffer's tape language, meant for quick hacks and `magic'. If you're a Perl programmer, you can understand it; if not, why bother reading through the code?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 6:08

I'd much rather use PHP for the rest of my life than Perl.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 6:20

Even if Perl is no longer the great language it was, you've gotta respect its legacy - regular expressions, and their best example, Mail::RFC822::Address

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 6:33

>>6
Contrary to popular belief, Perl did not invent regular expressions. They just cocked them up.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 6:52

Perl 6 is the best vaporware ever.

Does Audrey Tang still have a dick?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 7:21

I don't understand this language! THUS, IT IS SHIT.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 8:10

Perl is awesome at what it does, that is, at small, regular and serial jobs.
Report creation, text file parsing, etc.

Also, one-liners.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 10:41

>>11
You could almost say that it is practical for extraction and reports.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 11:04

>>11
Honestly, this was never true. People have been repeating it for so long that they actually started to believe it, but it's bullshit.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 11:07

Fuck off Xarn

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 11:11

>>13
And what else would you use?

PHP? Yeah right...
Ruby? lol
Python? lolol
Haskell? Wtf?
Shell? Sure is shitty regex and string manipulation.

XSLT!!!

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 11:25

>>16
XSLT is extremely ugly and unweildy.

We perl 'coders' just wanna spread the happiness :)

Perl6 exists right __now__... i used it yesterday :). It's "usable", not even alpha, but you can start coding now if you want.

Cobol exists right now. It's ``usable'', well beyond alpha, and you can start coding right now if you want.

Oh, but who am I kidding here, you probably wouldn't notice irony when served on a silver plate.

I'd choose PYTHON

It's »ö«

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 12:06

>>20
You're confusing. What's Cobol have to do with anything?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 12:11

>>24
COBOL created the world in 7 days

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 12:31

>>25
It would take more than 7 days to load all the code needed to create the world in COBOL.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 12:33

>>23
It's "GRUNNUR"

Also, saging top-most thread.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 12:37

>>25
Lisp can create the world in less than seven days, but that is left as an exercise to the reader.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-21 15:49

>>27
No, it's DWIS hyper meta-ö.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-24 3:19

I write Perl fulltime and I'm the only guy on my team who leaves comments other than commented out code.

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-24 4:21

>>5
Actually yes. At least if it's PHP 5.3, i herd it has some sort of closures and fixes []. What I definitely know is that I wouldn't like to do Perl for the rest of my life.

>>6
Perl's just a dialect, although the best one at it. Thankfully it was imported into almost every other major language (though most implementations like Python's or Racket's lack some features and of course they'll all lack the ability to run Perl).

>>15
This is a troll. I can tell by some of the words and from having seen quite a few trolls in my time.

BTW, I'd go with the FIOC, but I secretly like Racket to grow popular and win, or at least, somebody please make a Lisp compiler to FIOC VM and somebody else please write a new FIOC VM to get rid of the stupid GIL.

>>16
XSLT is the biggest brainfart somebody could ever shit. Let's greenspun XML! Far too enterprisey to be worth anything, and it processes XML, which isn't worth anything either.

That's because you aren't using SPRX.

Are you a GAY NIGGER?

If you answered "Yes" to all of the above questions, then GNAA (GAY NIGGER ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA) might be exactly what you've been looking for!

Don't change these.
