Computer Science

I believe that the 'proper' name for the field of Computer Science should no longer be debated. As programmers you all should know that a name is nothing more than a placeholder label for its content. I propose we call Computer Science, Applied Dickronomics, and never speak of this debate again.

That name isn't politically correct! What about girls studying Applied Dickronomics?

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-05 6:11

We'll call it Applied Vagonodicks

Name: Anonymous 2010-09-05 6:53

Does this mean that a book on Computer Science should be called a Dicronomicon?

Computer---so-called-science---actually has a lot in common with magic.

Even if you accept the ridiculous notion that --- is a valid substitute for —, that's not even close to how punctuation works.

I call it trollbait, because the only people that care about it at all are argumentative nerds like us.  So yeah, I'm a trollbait major.

Computer Science is a terrible name for this business. First of all, it’s not a science. It might be engineering, or it might be art… it’s also not really very much about computers.

It’s not about computers in the same sense that physics is not really about particle accelerators, and biology is not really about microscopes and petri dishes.

>A computational process is indeed much like a sorcerer's idea of a spirit. It cannot be seen or touched. It is not composed of matter at all. However, it is very real. It can perform intellectual work. It can answer questions. It can affect the world by disbursing money at a bank or by controlling a robot arm in a factory. The programs we use to conjure processes are like a sorcerer's spells. They are carefully composed from symbolic expressions in arcane and esoteric programming languages that prescribe the tasks we want our processes to perform.

Does anybody do D programming?

I'm trying to use Qtd (Qt bindings for D) together with the latest DMD compiler, but I'm getting build errors all over the place.

I'm building using either Visual D or D-IDE (same result), and I downloaded the prebuilt version of Qtd from code.google.com and copied the contents of its “import” directory to A:\DMD\dmd2\src\phobos, and copied the contents of “bin” and “lib” to A:\dm\bin and A:\dm\lib, respectively.

Error log I get when trying to build an application: http://d.pastebin.com/hQjFmXVQ

Source code: http://d.pastebin.com/v1t1dP0e

Any idea where I could have gone wrong?

People who post on anonymous imageboards with names to do anything but claim authorship for content they have created themselves are very destructive. They are typically very bitter people and expect those in their board of choice to behave with absolute maturity and to show them respect simply because they posted with a name. Posting with a name in such a manner is an ego-driven process that is ultimately destructive to the board as a whole.

Don't change these.
