Need help, vision system for robot?

Name: 3 2010-09-04 0:19

Okay, so I am building a robot for school, and basically all I need is a program that can download frames from a camera analyze them and see a "path".

I will be using a vehicle that kids drive in (like when they are toddlers) and I am going to need to know wtf I need to do... ANY help would be lovely, thanks <3

you dont need a camera, you just need a photocell

What the fuck is wrong with you? Why can't you do random shit for your autonomous mode like everyone else?

OpenCV I guess

Isn't FIRST in January? This is probably some college kid in over his head.

I did that for one semester.  The high school team I was assigned was awesome.
Hey, OP, do they still limit you to using only one/two sensor(s) and three motors?

They limit the number of motors?
I distinctly remember some other teams' robots with omniwheels driven by 4 individual motors.

That was part of the building rules we had to work with; they might have loosened them since.  The sensor limitation was much harder to work around during the robot's autonomous mode.  We implemented our own sensors from wire, wheels, and a compass to work alongside the permitted "canned" sensors but the regional judge made us disable those.

How many years ago did you do it?

I did 2004 and 2005, and iirc in '05 the big new thing was the camera. My team also had a compass and some sort of wheel rotation sensor on each wheel, I forget what exactly.

I also remember that at one competition we were the only robot to even touch the harder autonomous objective. But that was mostly accident.

The 05-06 tournament.  Also, looking back at pictures I took of the robot I remembered we did have four motors - two larger ones for drive, a larger one for the objective, and the smaller one I keep forgetting about because we buried it under everything else.  I also remember that camera.  We requisitioned one but no one wanted to use it when it arrived; the team figured it would be mostly unnecessary except for autonomous mode and difficult to use during autonomous mode anyway.  Did you use it?

Accident or not, congrats on the autonomous objective.

The only good thing that could come of this thread would be the thread being brought to his professor's attention.

You should use labview.
