I was reading a thread today about two programs that had similar functionality: one written in C/++ and the other in Java. The author of the C/++ program said his is more advanced because of the language it uses.

So /prog/, is C/++ more advanced than Java? And if so, does that automatically make programs written in C/++ more advanced than programs written in Java?

Java is more advanced language. But C++ is more used and generally the better choice of language for everything. But nobody uses plain C++ these days. Depending on what you're doing C# or D are much better. And if you like C then Objective-C might be your thing too. Objective-C is the better C and huge troll since it doesn't do anything better than C++ but claims to do that anyway...

Practically neither program is more advanced than the other since language used doesn't make any program automatically better/worse. Especially when we are talking about C++/Java.

Java version however can be run on all platform without (almost) any changes to source code. C++ version needs to be specifically coded for all the platforms you are intending to run it on.

So if we are just making comparison by the language (and not application features) I'd say Java version is more advanced and not because of the functionality but because of the features the language offers.

GCC has D addition called GCD.

I'd suggest that you learn C++ instead of D.

Look up for it though. You can do all sorts of cool shit with it. 8)
