• While this proposal does contain a handful of useful symbols, most of them are superfluous and unlikely to find any practical use.
• On top of that, there's an obvious heavy Japanese bias here. For a universal character set, this is unacceptable.
• The plant symbols could use a pine tree (without a star on top, which only serves to limit its usefulness).
• "Goblin" looks to me like a man with a large phallus.
• Most of the foods don't even make sense to me. ("Sushi" looks like two shoe boxes, "fried shrimp" resembles no shrimp I have ever seen, "lunchbox" is clearly a tray and not a box, and what on earth is "fish cake with swirl design" supposed to be?!)
• If an attempt at making a list of common animals is to be made, Unicode will eventually have nearly every species in existence. Further, many of the animals look nothing like what they are intending to represent, most significantly "frog", "cat", and "bear"; although most of the cartoon-faces are badly drawn and undecipherable.
• For that matter, I wouldn't even be able to figure out what most of the symbols are without looking up the description. (What is "anger symbol"?!!)
• Most of these are also likely to be completely unintelligible at smaller sizes.
• "Japanese symbol for beginner" is sure to be a huge hit with JDM faggots everywhere. (Is that what that thing means? How fucking funny.)
