A modest proposal

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 4:21

since
1. Most replies are used with sage nowadays
2. Old threads rarely need to be bumped
it is proposed that
no replies will bump a thread

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 4:25

here's a better proposal: a 1 bump per hour per ip limit.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 4:36

Another proposal:
Remove the name and email fields.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 4:38

Actually we should remove the entire data line beside the post number.
it should be like:
1 Some text.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 4:40

While the thread limit is 1000, without bumping and consequently necrobumping, the limit could be raised.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 4:47

Another proposal:
Learn how to use subject.txt like Shii intended.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:07

Good idea, Jonathan

Back to /b/, please.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:14

>>4
Also, add real-time update inside the thread(like in chat)

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:23

>>9
For that matter, let's ditch HTTP and just do the whole thing over IRC.

Someone never used AJAX.

Someone thought AJAX was a good idea.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:26

I'm going to write a BBS similar to >>1-9

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:32

>>13
and call it AnonTalk

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:39

Whats the average post length on /prog/?
less than 255? It would be replaced with twitter-type board.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:41

>>15
The BEST posts are those over 255 chars.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:43

>>16
Exactly why we need to limit it to 140 chars.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:44

@16 the only posts >255char are idiot code samples, talkative idiots and memes; i think @15 has the best idea

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:45

If you count the number of posts over 255 characters in lenght,
each of them could be easily made by splitting the posts into smaller 255 byte chunks. Thus 255 limit is useful, and protects against spam/garbage stealing bandwidth.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:47

If its twitter-type board will each thread have a RSS feed?

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:50

Should the character limit ignore formatting? I'm not sure it's fair to miss out on SexpCode pong just because of a character limit.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:51

>>20
Waste of bandwidth. Why would you need an update to something that changes once per month or is real-time like >>9

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:55

I would certainly write a BBS but how would anyone host a C program? Most webhosts only offer Python/Ruby/PHP

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:56

>>16
THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST THE BEST

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:56

>>23
Write it in C and then convert to Python.
Problem solved.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 5:59

>>25
But now you have two pro-- sorry.

Rebuttal:
1. That change would turn Shiichan into an anonymous usenet group with bbcode.
2. Move to alt.sicp and write a sexpcode plugin for slrn.

Name: Anonymous 2010-06-28 6:13

A real BBS would be written in ANI language.
