Hello, I'm new to java. I just finished the Hello World Application, and felt that it didn't teach me enough about programming. This is my first language (although i was previously familiar with some basic terms and the such), do you know of any basic program i can make that will provide me with better insight to the syntax?

Less of this.

You shouldn't be trying to learn Java, especially as a first language.

I always skip 'Hello World' and start with Markov Chains. HW doesn't teach you anything meaningful about the language.

Is it that hard?

It will be an unpleasant experience that will teach you nothing but bad habits.

I usually start by attempting to implement crypt() for much the same reason. Arrays, multiple functions, looping constructs, and bitwise math. Fun!
