ENTERPRISE QUALITY SOLUTION

Hello /prague/!
I need a cheap ENTERPRISE QUALITY SOLUTION for a production line status report mechanism.

Given:
-USB machine interface which reports the machine's status with certain intervals
 -Cheap tablet PC's
 -WIFI

Would it be wrong to propose that the most simple way to do this would be with:
 -a MySQL central server,
-a C-layer interpreting and forwarding status reports to it
-and a webpage on the intranet to give the workers a possibility to report any status changes they deem nessecary to the database through a web-browser on the tablets.

It seems it would be then easy to export CSVs on a routine or on-demand basis.

And the modern WIFI security standarts are good enough to provide an ok level of anus protection.

In how many ways do I fail by making the aforementioned assumptions?

Yes.

The ROI you will get from this is zero. If management likes looking at real time charts and changing numbers, it might be a good idea to head such a project but if you are looking out for the best interests of the company you might want to talk them out of this.

Well they ARE CHARTS...
And this IS MANAGEMNT we are talking about...

ATM they have it all on paper, which some secretary has to put into the pc at the end of every shift.

But generally speaking your's is a more than valid opinion on the matter.

Could anyone elaborate?

As far as "quality of what is needed"/"price and ease of implementation" is concerned it still seems a... niceish choice.

Yet this might make things even easier - thanks!

How do you tell your friends and family what you do for a living if write code for a teledildonics company? It would probably be good drunk conversation though.

"I write software."
Usually that's enough. Any further inquiries are just to be polite because they're not actually interested. And on the off-chance that they are interested, they would be fascinated by the technical challenges and ethical considerations involved in the burgeoning field of TLD.
