Things that you don't like about /prog/

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-20 4:10

1. The notion of separation threads into 40 posts? This doesn't even makes sense. 1000posts = 25 pages of mostly one-sentence posts?
2. Only 18 threads on the first page? You can easily stuff 100.

3. People who advice to go to /b/ and other boards.
They look like grumpy old man sitting on a porch and scaring off teenagers playing nearby. Their secret porch has been long discovered by Vasco da Gama, but they still insists its unique and belongs to them only and mumbling in forgotten languages no one in the vicinity of 50 miles speaks.

A proper metathread requires outside context on which the source context(the /prog/) can be projected.

I hate it when threads start out like this.

Lets discuss the conflict between identity/ego and anonymity(self versus the absolute).
Has anyone noticed the anonymity/oneness/collective mind is very similar to Nirvana and the ego death. Except we are sending thoughts from some depersonalized void, like impulses generated by collective mind. The experience of being a part of greater whole.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 10:43

>>28
>depersonalized void
Is this some subtle metatrolling here?

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 11:07

>>29
Why ``meta''? Unless you define trolling as trolling strictly non-trolls, so anyone who attempts to troll a troll is metatroll, and so on, up to the first fixed point. But that's kinda stupid, given the circumstances.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 11:24

>>28
There's no conflict. When you're anonymous, there is no vanity involved. Whatever you say as an anonymous person will be considered solely upon the value of the message rather than the celebrity status of the poster.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 12:04

>>26
You are right.
Still too many meta-threads exist here

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 13:02

Nevertheless, a person can still be accurately identified by their typing style, posting times, demeanour, et so on. This leads to bias in conversation and cetera.

Also, good work on paraphrasing Shii.

/prog/'s inability to accept functional posts of any sort reduces the amount of topics and content available to it.  Threads on /prog/ are only vaguely and sometimes accidentally relevant to the board in general because of this.  Any attempt at related topics are pigeon-holed away and all attempts at fostering such topics are met with choruses of the derogatory "You helped him" no matter what kind of input is provided.  It doesn't even have to be a "homework" post.  We would do much better to shun those posts that can be described as "meta" or "spam" or "meme."

And, damn, we actually need a janitor that cares about this board.

You'll note I did not spoiler the board name.  I am aware of that; I no longer feel inclined to care.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 13:26

I hate everyone on /prog/ except myself.. why do I post here?

"You helped him" is only derogatory if you find stating the obvious to be derogatory. Frankly, this says more about you than the board.

You'll note I did not spoiler the board name
Big fucking deal, we stopped doing that ages ago. The only person who still cares should be ignored.

You are wrong, and I have data to prove it!
In the following graph, the red line represents all weekly mentions of the string ``/prog/'', and the red line represents the weekly mentions of ``
/prog/
'' and the popular variant ``

/spoiler/
''
:

For clarity, this graph shows what percentage of posts mentioning ``/prog/'' are made up by the two mentioned variants:

http://i.imgur.com/Uk5LL.png

So you can clearly see that the proper use of ``/prog/'' has always been quite uncommon, but, more than that, it is not noticeably less common now than it has ever been.

Name: Anonymous 2010-04-21 15:51

>>39
In retrospect, I should have known that code tag was going to mess up. The second variant is of course ``/prog/''.
