What's been lately on my mind...

Say you have an electronic gizmo, and the gizmo has a volume meter. It can be any kind of a linearly changeable property, but let's go with volume. And on that gizmo, MP3 player or a media player or whatever, the volume meter is hidden when non active. And when you hit the +/- button, the meter appears. The paradox here is: Do you prefer the first button press just to make the meter visible, or make it visible, and also change the volume? It really makes me angry when I want to turn up the volume, and the meter appears at full, and I don't know if it was full before I turned it up.

Or at least a class on hearing protection. If your volume is at maximum, you're either deafening yourself or your mippy three is terrible and you need a new one.
