Recording a live stream with Action Script

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-29 9:30

sup /prog/

i'm looking for a way to record a live video stream on the client side, preferably with action script 3
basically i just want to make to create a file with what the client would see
would Stream.get(streamname) work?

for school we're working together with a local company that needs a software that we're programming
they record video, stream it to us, we record the stream, add timing information for a second data stream (like... the ranking or timing information at a sport event), and then we stream it to a streaming server

alternatively... is there a automated way to record a stream with VLC? is it still free if i use it comercially?

so i should read the VLC faq to find out if i can solve my problem with action script?
please aquire some basic abillitys to follow a conversation

it's bigger than just a homework, this is just a small part of the whole thing that i've been stuck on for a few weeks now
and before you say "GOOGLE FAGGIT!!11" ... i tried, all i can find on this topic is how to record a local webcam or a local microphone

i don't want you guys to programm the whole thing for me...
all i ask for is a simple command like Stream.recordVideo(streamname); ... which i just made up btw) or a helpfull link

You're a /pr/ogrammer, not a /prog/rammer. Please leave.

What the hell are you doing that for?

I was only referring to the licensing thing. I went to videolan.org and found everything about it in 2 clicks. So excuse me for being angry but it bugs me how people ask on forms about stuff they can find out in a matter of seconds.

As for your streaming thing, if you use a linux OS the webcam will be a file just like your incoming stream. Instead of using the webcam file use the other file. You will need some srs knowledge about streaming and stuff if you want to do it on another OS.

BTW funny way to experiment with device files: run "cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp" from a terminal.^^

windows :/
and i read the licensing stuff when it was posted, but as i said, not a priority at that moment (and still isn't), altough i'm starting to explore the possibility

i also already tried using some webcam commands with the livestream... without succes though obviously

i don't know either, in my opionion the project is pretty useless as well
but we have to do it anyway
the example i posted is basically exactly what this project is about
during video compression text can become unreadable - thats why we're sending the text information seperately uncompressed... in 720i(or p... but i seems more logical)
i assume you can actually read the text informations on a HD stream, but i'm not asked

>>7
actually i wouldn't really consider myself either
i'm just a guy with a task to fullfill

>>9
i'll look into that, thanks
