Just take a look at what /lit/ and imageboard /sci/ look like, and you'll get some inkling of what is to come.

Most imageboards link to textboards, though I don't visit other textboards so I don't know how their quality compares to that of /prog/. Still, I would imagine most people stay on the imageboards.

I like /prog/ because it's a bunch of elitist pricks, a safe haven from /pr/-level retards, a place I can call home. But even if this /prog/ were to fall, there are other boards we can go to, like that rock one. I would be content as long as my fellow /Prague/riders came with me.

The post counts are rather large, so I'm guessing that lots of retards are just going for the "XD NEW BORED LOLOLXD". We should be able to get a better feel in a few weeks time, but I can't imagine them being better than their text board equivalent.

I don't think that the text boards are going to suffer too much extra retards, solely because the people who begged for these imageboards were too stupid to realise that there were text boards for science,books,etc.
