/pr/ig disgusting

I strayed away from /prog/ for a moment and I'm honestly appalled at the level of discussion at the programming boards of other imageboards. It's like those shitty "learning how to program guise, what should my first language be I'm think C# XDXD" threads, but that's the entire board.

What's even worse is that they have the gall to claim that /prog/ is nothing but memespam, when they can't have any discussion more complex than "OMG MY FIRST PROGRAM WONT COMPILE WAT DO I DO????" Truly laughable.

The only other tolerable programming communities seem to be on iichan and 4-ch.

I mean, I appreciate the vote of confidence, but metathreads aren't any good either. We have a STANDARD OF QUALITYstandard to uphold, you know?

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-22 6:21

This thread is now about SICP

It's not that they don't have a point, it's that they fail recognize that meme spam is better than what they provide. The meme spam tends to come in cycles, you just have to ride it out or post some fucking content

The /prog/cycle
Good threads -> flame wars -> get lazy and start spamming memes -> metathreads about spam -> more spam -> Maybe good threads

The /prog/ Cycle
Good threads (circa 1400BC) -> THINK ABOUT -> Herp derp [part 5] -> No one actually programs -> Which toy language is the best -> Incidental good discussion -> Good discussion gets drowned out by HAX MY TOPIC -> You kill yourself and feel kind of good about it : )

Good discussion gets drowned out by HAX MY TOPIC
If you notice the times that HAX MY * is posted in the various threads, it seems to be mostly one person doing it.

GOTTA HAX THEM ALL

iichan seems to link to 4-ch's /code/. Do they have some other board?

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-22 8:18

I will now start posting HAX MY * to counter this.

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-22 9:06

For sure there is more than one person doing it.

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-22 9:20

I don't doubt that, but when 3 or more threads each get bumped with "Hax my *", "* my Anus", "lolol is ur dof ded", etc. in the the space of a few minutes, I think it is likely that it is perpetrated by the same person

That's not really a cycle

But I think the idea of cyclical history is the fault of lazy historians. The real decline of porg:y = χ2

Well yes, we know. That and other things is rather obviously some attention-starved loser. Ignore it and hope it finds a purpose in life some day.

I know, I went there one time when 4chan was down (dis was still up, but it was slow as usual). I was appalled, It's like the entire channel is made of retards!
What I found especially funny was a (stickied, I think) topic with a mod asking for help with some PHP "programming" and another thread in which an user asked what to use to store really big numbers (outside the range of a long) and they recommended floats to him. Seriously.
Also it seems 7chan has an obsession in 4chan in general (wordfiltering 4chan to niggertits, IIRC).

You might be elitist pricks, /prog/, but that's where I feel at home.

7Chan's imageboard culture has far less freemasonry than does niggertits.

That said I only come to 4chan anymore for you fuckers here in /plauge/.

/pr/ was considering setting up a little community to help each other get better with programming.

They decided C was the best language to start with.

Name: Anonymous 2010-01-22 14:51

Does /pr/ still ban people for mentioning SICP?

Disregard that, I'm a retard. It's the same board.

It is.

Overall, I have no problem with C. It's a great help with microcontrollers, and I imagine it would be a boon in kernel work. But whenever I program in C on a modern computer (e.g., one made since 2000), I invariably ask myself, "Isn't this the kind of shit computers were made for in the first place?"

It's funny 'cause it's true.
