What were you thinking when you went in to CS? You're a smart guy -- you know those business, law, and medical folk are making some bank. Hell, you know that with an even smaller time investment, plumbers and welders are making just as much or more than those folks, not to mention considerable domestic job security.
What's so attractive about it? For the most part, you become "the IT guy." Sure, you will/are making a decent salary, but you know you could have done better. If you're fresh out of college, you'll take what you get, which probably includes selling your free time for pennies to a company that has you on-call. You felt secure about being top x% of your school, but you forgot that many others like you are churned out every year, and hundreds of other places.
I'm trying to answer this question myself... I guess this is just what I'm good at.
