Don't acknowledge it's existence by making threads about it. But I'll let this thread serve as a public service announcement.

Oh hohoho. It seems some people desire to match wits with /prog/'s greatest. You people will fall together with those of us that have fallen earlier. http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/40415

Why do you think they hide behind the "Anonymous" mask? Do they feel insecure taking names?
Having an opinion and posting it anonymously is akin to writing graffiti, hoping passerby add to it.(Isn't this resembling Shiichan?)

Grow up children, there were a handful of posts tops, and you have completely overreacted. If you can't be mature enough to ignore him, I suggest you leave.

Where do you see overreaction? To spend five minutes patching the script with the current tripcode and installing it doesn't seem like a big deal to me.

I think you're thinking in the wrong framework, where not ignoring him is unconditionally bad. No, it's not. It's like if I spat in a beggar's cup and you were, like, "ah, you noticed him, you put yourself on his level", while in reality the reverse would be true: trying hard to pretend the little shit doesn't exist instead of taking a small but pure pleasure in offending him, is wrong. This means that you really do notice him and try hard to curb your natural responses and act unnatural as a result.

Right now I (don't) see two missing posts directly above and feel pleasure thinking that he knows it and it probably bothers him, and then he would reply and I won't see that as well. I don't even care if it really bothers him, I just did what I wanted and it feels good. And of course I'm mature enough not to care about that retarded "ignoring him without technical aid" shit of yours.

The overreaction was in devoting an entire thread to it. A single post in an offending thread would have sufficed. It also brings him to the attention of us who are using the script and living in blissful ignorance.

retarded "ignoring him without technical aid"
How is that retarded?

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-30 15:25

Because you should want to not see his posts (and feel good!), not to train yourself to ignore his posts.

There is a lot of other options for self-development. And anyway, the whole discourse from which that suggestion stems seems retarded to me. The idea that somehow you become a better person if you ignore trolls and idiots rather than having fun at their expense (e.g. by trolling back). "To give away pride and hate is to say you will change for the good of the world. To vent them is more noble; that is to say the world must change for the good of you."

I don't think you know what you're up to. It is impossible to sway that person, it doesn't listen and stops for nothing. Solid as rock. "Trolling back", more like talking to a wall, it's a waste of time and only causes it to respond giving it a reason to stay.

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-30 16:13

Automatically and effortlessly ignoring idiocy to the point of hardly being aware of its presence should be second nature to any true elitist.  Taking any time to educate, humour, or entertain them would be pure charity.  Why spend time and effort on being charitable to people who, even collectively, are not as important as I am?

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-30 16:38

>>15
I mean, what's the harm in seeing his posts?

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-30 16:59

>>16
I'm so self-centered that I don't even need the person I'm trolling to rage or understand that he is being trolled, true trolling is a reward in itself, as a form of art.

>>17
When <b>I</b> choose to act on noticing an idiocy, <b>I</b> aim to entertain no one but myself. The decision to notice a particular kind of idiocy shall also be mine, and I won't refrain from technical means to enhance my internal routines, indeed I'm embracing this option.

>>18
They kinda bother me. And seeing emptiness where they should have been, on the other hand, entertains me, like, the shit was writing them, spending his efforts to pass his "thought" to me, and my userscript just disposed of it all. Ain't that nice?

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-30 17:01

Also, I happen to fail at BBCode.

Name: Anonymous 2009-11-30 18:44

The harm is that one is tempted to match wits. It'd be your own business to match wits with /prog/'s greatest. Should you do decide to do this, caveat amici.

It would be the other way around with me. Well, I guess everyone has their own preferences.

Some might be. I was in the past, but now the temptation disappeared.

No. Trolling is like a vampire sucking rage/negative emotions out of audience. Its is very unbalanced and emotional venue where trolls operate on victims flaws and bait them for maximum trolling. It is not chess.
