The C Programming Language 3rd Edition

My dad works at Prentice Hall and he told me that there were talks with K&R to release the book next year.

"Ok, Mr. FrozenVoid, tell us about yourself."
"Well, I'm an master programmer with no fault in javascript and C. Infact I wrote my own opensource game and am planning to write an OS sometimes in the future."
"Well that certainly is impressive. Could you show us an example of your code?"
"Certainly! here:
main(int a,char**b){int x=strlen(b[0])>strlen(b[1])?strlen(b[0]):strlen(b[1])-1;for(;x>=0;--x)if(strlen(b[0])>strlen(b[1])b[0][x]=b[1][x];else b[1][x]=b[0][x];printf(strlen(b[0])>strlen(b[1])?b[0]:b[1]);}
I'm self taught, you know."
"EXCELLENT! YOU GET THE JOB!"

Kinda like that, eh?

Indeed, although I shudder at your example.

That is exactly the kind of shit FV writes.  Just read his fabulous blog (lol j/k nobody gives a shit what high-school kids think)

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 3:14

>>15
Just typeset the damn cover too

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 4:57

It's amazing to think that a year or two ago, I would've been completely outraged by that code, but now I can actually read it pretty easily.

I feel so sorry for you.
I can't imagine what horrible misfortunes have befallen you to give you that skill.

Redundant [code] tags.

ISO C, dude.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 11:04

>>48
Ah, yeah.
In retrospect that was a pretty stupid mistake, what with all the /prog/riders who wrote ANSI C compilers when they were 12 years old.
I'm assuming that /prog/ isn't full of the underage.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 11:12

>>49
I'm sure all /prog/lodytes are at least 12 years old.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 11:15

I'm 12 and what is this

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 11:23

I'm this and what is a 12

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 11:26

I'm a Mac and what is C.

Name: Anonymous 2009-10-19 11:28

>>52 also made me realize what retarded blob of shit >>51 is. The use of "this" is not suited for a high-level language (or one that wants to be called as such). This is a problem even the C preprocessor can solve (for some cases):
#define bind_local(binding, value, body) \
  do { binding = value; \
       body; } while(0)
// alternative macro body:
// ((binding = (value)), body)
I know the author of the article likely won't reply, so I ask the >>51 programmers of this board instead. Hit me back if you've got an adequate answer for >>51's inadequacy.

That'd be pretty cool, but I don't really see much of a reason for it. Maybe to cover some of the C99 stuff, like having a boolean type. Maybe a few words about threads, although I don't think there's a standard C way to do it; they'd probably just use pthreads for basic examples that could easily apply to almost any other thread implementation.

No, they wouldn't. Ritchie nor Kernighan have anything to do with POSIX, nor do they want to. You're a gullible idiot.

I can hardly wait to seat myself in my most comfortable recliner with pencil, paper, and a bottle of Scotch. With the Good Book at my side and the complete volumes of the Bible (collector's edition) in front of me, I'll read it from end to end while translating all the psalms from MMIX to C99. ;_;

It comes fortnightly with a magazine building up into a complete collection, all for only £5.99 an issue. The first one was even half price ^_^

In the United States, we do not use the term "fortnight." Nor do we use your weighty currency.

Please be a bit more US-centric so we may be enriched by the things you have to say.
