I spoke with some humans -- a professor and his graduate aid. The issue of a poorly documented software system being used came up, created by someone who spent "80 hours a week" on the project. The professor went on to joke about how this person really just does whatever they want. He was trying to contact him so that he could work with us to get his great, wonderful software in an extensible state. He joked about the guy likely not having a job, as apparently he wasn't driven to do this sort of thing. An eccentric guy. I grinned and laughed at it the whole time, thinking how awesome my professor is for belittling this over-the-top nerd.
Then he joked about the guy not having a girlfriend. I became enlightened.
And now my soul is hollow.
