It's a bullshit webshite anyway. Bullshit websites are the websites that eventually have self-produced content and management, which means you have your users working for you. You can tell because there's 'reputation'. With more reputation, the more you are involved in stackoverfow and the more you gain power over the community. In the meanwhile, the guys who host stackoverflow probably didn't even write code for it. They just came up with the idea because they took economics or some shit and decided to implement it - finally it is there and tehy're making money and you're linking people to your SO profile with all your 'reputation points' thinking you're the shit. fuck.

He may be a troll and a spammer, and his opinions may be very different from mine, but I have no reason to hate him. I haven't read any of his books to know if they're good or bad.

The only reason I go to reddit is to upvote Dr. Harrop.

He definitely claims to be; whether or not he is, I do not know.

So GHC uses CAS instructions everywhere in order to implement mutual exclusion. CAS is 2x faster than locking but still 100x slower than synchronization free.
I think the actual figure, Dr. Harrop, is over 9000x slower.

He's right on the money.  Only synchronizing when requested is the fastest approach.
