Transparency text editor

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-25 3:02

Hi, I am would like to switch to Linux; but I will have no longer a text editor with transparency, that will show the background? I need also animation from the wallpaper, with a squid.

Firstly, Why?
and secondly, you could try the text editor with WINE, if you must.

vim + transparent terminal

Are there X11 terminals that do actual transparency these days? Last time I used it they just copied part of the desktop image but not other windows underneath.

an animation of a squid? what?

Compiz can set transparency for each window.

Get a fancier window manager. It takes a compositing window manager to do that, and Metacity is not one.

I used to use a squid screensaver, though using animation for a background is a little too annoying.

I haven't actually used linux in years other than via ssh, never even heard of metacity.

unfortunately linux only supports octopuses as wallpaper.

Name: Anonymous 2009-09-25 6:22

hIT THE LEFTMOST KEY IN THE ROW THE 'A' KEY BELONGS. dO US ALL A FAVOR. dO IT NOW. sOME PEOPLE JUST DON'T HAVE ANY NETIQUETTE! i RECOMMEND TO THEM RFC1855, WHICH YOU MAY FIND HERE: http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1855.txt

sPECIFICLY, IT IS WRITTEN IN PAGE 4:
   - Use mixed case.  UPPER CASE LOOKS AS IF YOU'RE SHOUTING [sic].
tAKE ME FOR EXAMPLE!

Linux was the FIRST OS to have transparent windows, thanks to its open-source philosophy.

But even if it weren't the case, that wouldn't change anything. If a feature you miss isn't available in Linux, then the onus is on YOU to implement it instead of being a whiny bitch.

tHAT'S FUCKING IDIOTIC. tYPICAL OF OPEN-SOURCE ADVOCATES WHO ARE ACTUALLY UNINFORMED. lINUX WAS THE FIRST BECAUSE IF YOU WANT A FEATURE IN LINUX, YOU CAN JUST WRITE IT YOURSELF AND THEN IT'S THERE! wHEN WE TALK ABOUT WINDOWS, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AN OS REDESIGN, WHICH MEANS AN OS RELEASE, WHICH MEANS MAJOR WORK. wINDOWS DID IT TOO IN VISTA. i MEAN, IT'S NICE HATING MICROSOFT AND ALL, BUT DON'T LET THAT BLIND YOU FROM LOOKING AT REALITY. mICROSOFT IS RICH AS FUCK, AND THEY COULD GET YOU WORKING CODE FOR ANY FEATURE YOU CAN IMAGINE BECAUSE OF THAT.

i BABBLE TOO MUCH, AND PERHAPS READERS HAVE ALREADY NOTICED I'M REPEATING WHAT YOU SAID; THEY NOTICED WRONG. yES, LINUX WAS THE FIRST TO GET THAT FEATURE BECAUSE OF ITS PHILOSOPHY, BUT NOT FOR THE REASONS YOU LEFT IMPLIED, RATHER BECAUSE IT'S SIMPLY INSTANT TO INTEGRATE A NEW FEATURE.
